P.J. Harrah with jack

P.J. Harrah - Circa 1910

Born in 1864, Philip John Harrah (P.J.) was a great storyteller, played the violin for square dancers and was a devotee of Thomas A. Edison.

He began his working career as a salesman of washing machines, then became a schoolteacher.

The original Jack was invented by P.J. Harrah in 1905, and even though the basic design has remained the same, there have been many improvements made through the years that have resulted in the current Hi-Lift® Jack and our current line of products.

P.J. Harrah’s invention has stood the test of time and has completely changed the way people all over the world work and play – from farmers and ranchers, to off-roaders and outdoor enthusiasts, to fire and rescue personnel and construction workers, or anyone that owns a truck or SUV.

The Hi-Lift® P.J. Harrah Signature Edition Jack bears the signature of the founder of our company, and the inventor of the Automatic Combination Tool, the Handyman® Jack, and what is now widely known as the Hi-Lift® Jack.

The Hi-Lift® P.J. Harrah Signature Edition Jack combines the old with the new. The aesthetics and unique features harken back to the original Automatic Combination Tool and Handyman® Jack invented by P.J. Harrah in 1905.

Still, it’s a true Hi-Lift® Jack, offering the latest and greatest in features, capacity, durability, and versatility that people have come to depend upon.
